About This Project

The owner’s wishes to “Make it simple, make it easy to line in, and give it volume” have all been delivered by this major refurbishment of an early 20th century villa just off Ponsonby Rd in Freemans Bay

The new basement double garage and large rear living addition, along with a complete re-modelling of the interior, have transformed the home while still maintaining and enhancing the villa integrity from the street.

The rear open-plan living, kitchen and dining addition maintained the 3.6m ceiling height of the original house providing a real sense of grandness, which coupled with the full-height doors and windows fully achieves the feeling of volume the client was after.

Wide sliding timber joinery doors open to provide a seamless flow out to the rear deck and the outdoor fireplace

This project succeeds in achieving a magnificent family home that provides all the comforts of modern living through a truly sympathetic alteration to a grand old villa.
