Sandringham Alteration

Our clients, a young family, had started to outgrow this charming transitional villa. They came to us wanting a comfortable, interesting space in which to enjoy their city fringe lifestyle. As such, we modernized and added to the existing home, while also honouring it’s classic character.

At the rear of the house, a new open plan living dining area and kitchen opens to the garden, with the master suite tucked off to the side. The new wing has a lowered floor level to provide easy indoor-outdoor flow to the garden.  The high stud, clerestory windows and large sliding doors give the space the feeling of an outdoor room when completely opened up, whilst still providing the versatility to quickly close up against Auckland’s changeable weather.

Typically the new spaces provide a modern aesthetic, combined with traditional materials and detailing. The base palette of whites and neutrals allows restrained botanical flourishes, which brings the natural palette of the garden indoors.
